Yoni Love

Hey lovelies,

So I have been contemplating my reaction to the comment “beautiful vagina” and a variety of other comments about my pubic hair and various references to my vajaja. And I have decided that I need to embrace my cunt in all her womanly glory.

A picture says a thousand words they say…

I’ve never heard of yoni. A search returned Yoni Massage. Have you taken this step in our freedom and joy? It sound wonderful. πŸ™‚

Respect for every body begins with respecting every part of the body. A favorite tool of bullies and predators is to disrespect people by denigrating aspects of the bullied person’s body, as a means of making that person feel insecure, inferior and vulnerable. For that reason, I do not like euphemisms for body parts. Cunt, dick, vajajay, are often used as perjoratives when as you point out, the vagina, penis, related genital parts are all aspects of the amazing intersection of form and function that is the human body.

In the same vein, I hate the term “private parts”. What part of your body isn’t your private property??? I equivocate private and personal to emphasize wholeness and jurisdiction/ sovereignty of the individual: the fact no one has license to touch another without consent. Even offerring a hand for a handshake is a request for permission to touch: it is an extension of respect and an acknowledgement of individual rights.

It’s great to see you embrace your body completely…by individual part and as a whole. I’d just encourage you to consider which terms you use for sundry parts, as some terms come with inextricable connotations.

    1. I am hanging out with friends so won’t respond to your entire well written and beautifully expressed comment. I will just comment on what struck a chord with me. Words used by others to describe a body part is something to be aware of but I am an advocate for reclaiming words. An example is the Slut Walks. I can’t honestly remember which word I used but I have three descriptive words I like using instead of vagina:

      Cunt
      Vajaja
      And my favorite: Yoni

I hope you are having a blissful evening. I know I am!

      From my heart to yours,

      Joy

Hope you are having a great time with your friends. Please don’t feel the need to respond until it is convenient. I understand the idea of reclaiming words but some are, IMO, have better alternatives and are best left unused. One example is the n* word may have been reclaimed by recording artists of African ethnicity, but the word has such emotional volatility that I would never use it. I looked up the etymology of cunt and yoni. I don’t have as big an issue with yoni as I do with cunt, but the latter is filled with venom in most use. I much prefer giving each body part dignity by referring to it by it’s proper name.

      2. Well we will have to agree to disagree on that . 😘

The beauty of your posts is that you are not the only one that gets an opportunity to explore one’s own triggers. πŸ™‚ I am trusting that we are only in the infant stages of pervasive social media, and at some point in the future people will become more self-aware and use other people’s posts as opportunities to explore themselves, instead of letting their own triggers trigger reactive public responses.

    1. Interesting perspective yes… over the years while I was writing Tantrachick, thousands of people shared their own path with me and opened to healing and transformation after reading something that resonated with them. Words and images are powerful. πŸ’—
